How do I admit I made the wrong call to my team?

Say the four hardest words plainly and early: "I got this wrong."

Managers torture themselves trying to reverse a bad decision without admitting there was one. The quiet patch. The "small course correction." Your team sees straight through it, and what they learn is that you will protect your image over their time.

The move that builds trust is the uncomfortable one. Name it in the first sentence. "I made the wrong call two weeks ago. That is on me, not on anyone who executed it. Here is where we go now." Then own the cost out loud, including the redone work. Your team does not lose respect when you own a mistake. They lose it when you make them pretend you did not.

Timeliness matters as much as honesty. Every day you wait, the wasted work compounds and the admission gets more expensive.
