How to run your first team meeting as a new manager
The instinct is to walk in with a vision, a plan, and a speech. Resist it. Your first meeting is not a performance of authority. It is the start of earning it.
Listen more than you talk. The team has been running without you and knows things you do not. Ask what is working, what is broken, and what they wish the last person had fixed. Then actually write it down where they can see you doing it.
Name what you do not know yet. New managers think admitting uncertainty looks weak. It looks honest, and honesty is the fastest way to trust. I do not have all the answers on X yet, and here is how I plan to get them beats a confident wrong answer every time.
Leave with one concrete commitment they can hold you to by the next meeting. Small and kept beats big and vague.
